Scotland, Bury St. Edmunds and SewDanish

Well, here we are almost two month later.... Life is great and so busy! I have to confess that I haven't done much sewing, crafting, designing nor computering lately. And I do miss it. Other hand there is a time for everything and sometimes it is good to take a step back and change direction for a while.

What recently has been taken my time are lovely visits from relatives and friends from Denmark. I'm always so happy when dear ones come to visit and are willing to spend their precious vacation time to come visiting. Lots of time is spend catching up (in Danish, my native language, bliss! :-) . And while showing and sharing my beautiful surroundings, it so makes me appreciate the beautiful corner of the world where I'm currently living.

As I didn't get around to do any blogging, I never properly advertised our recent OutOfTheFold exhibition at The Castle Inn, Bungay where we all had made a 12 x 12 inch piece framed in identical frames. I know I'm biased, but it really looked stunning! If you missed that exhibition, the same collection will be on display at Denny Brothers Art Gallery , Bury St Edmunds, England the whole month of July 2011. My piece is the one featured in the blog post.

Currently my other textile group FibreFusion is exhibiting at Sew In Stitches , Scotland with our 'Touchy Feely' exhibition. A selection of other pieces are on display as well.

Before I go, I want to share my happy dancing with you.......Last week I celebrated my 150th sale in my shop SewDanish . Thank you to all my wonderful customers. I really appreciate it :-) Thank you! 

'Out Of The Fold' and Australia

In my last blog post I was writing about our quilts from my textile group 'Out Of The Fold' going on display in Melbourne, Australia. Last Friday when the group met we had our quilts returned to us and Annette Morgan filled us in on her experience Down Under. Very exciting!

Tonight a friend of mine emailed me, to let me know that this Australian blog
suedennisartquilts has two blog posts about our exhibition. And I'm so excited as my quilt, amongst others, has been featured. But above all, it is a superb feeling getting a reaction from a lady who has actually seen our exhibition it in its context.

In the group we have chosen our design theme for our next exhibition in 2011. After thinking long and hard I have finally decided on my design source. I haven't had time to sit down and really get on with the design work, but what I've done so far, definitely has a lot of potential and I cannot wait to get on with it.

My art quilt at The Australasian Quilt Convention 2010

I'm so excited, yet it is a bit surreal. An art quilt of mine is going to be on display at the Australasian Quilt Convention Melbourne next weekend. One of the textile groups 'Out Of The Fold' that I belong, made for our exhibition in October 2009 in Bury St. Edmunds, England a collection of art quilts all measuring 18'x45' on the theme 'Inside Out'. That collection will be on display in Australia next weekend. Annette Morgan , quilt artist, author and the groups mentor is teaching workshops as well as displaying the quilts. It is really so exciting. It could have been fantastic to have attended the Quilt convention. I have never been to Australia, and would love to visit. Maybe one day. It is always totally mind boggling visiting huge shows like that. The amount creativity, inspiration and positive energy makes it such an amazing experience. I hope Annette takes a lot of photos:-)

'Out Of The Fold' at Cavern 4, Bury St. Edmunds

Have I been busy lately. YES!! Even though my blog has been neglected, I'm happy because I'm almost done preparing work for two different, upcoming exhibitions in one October with 'Out Of The Fold' and one November with 'Sindano'. Actually I'm taking part in a third exhibition with 'Fiberfusion' in November as well, at the Knitting and Stitching Show at Harrogate. That is why I've been pushing my self to get all the other exhibition work done, so that I can concentrate on that piece, which I haven't started yet. Mind you, I only did join 'Fiberfusion' recently, so that's my excuse. I'm not bored that's for sure :-)
We, the 'Out Of The Fold' Textile Group is having our second major exhibition of stitched and dyed textiles. This time it is a week long exhibition at 'Cavern 4', Whiting Street, in Bury St. Edmunds , Suffolk, England. The exhibition is on from the 24th-31st October. All new work from the 13 textile artists will be on display. I've seen group members working first on their design work and then on their pieces this last year and stunning work is being produced! It will be very exciting to see the exhibition finally hung. Please contact me for more information.

Work in progress

I don't like being last minute when working on pieces. I don't mind working under pressure with lots of other things, but in regards to crafting, I hate sitting there with time running out, trying to make things look right. For me it is so stressful and it simply takes the fun out a process, that I otherwise enjoy tremendously. I want to have time to change things if it doesn't work or to follow a new path if an idea pops up. At the end of the day, I probably work very intuitively and need to allow ample time just to look at the pieces, on my design board. When making a larger piece I quite often take photos during the making process. In my workroom, I cannot get far enough away, to look at it, from a descent distance. If overall design doesn't work it will usually scream at you, and it is by far easier and nicer to realize it before it is too late, and a lot of time has been wasted on a weak piece.
Lately I have been working on a quilt for the upcoming 'Out Of The Fold' exhibition in October. We decided as a group to all make a long, narrow piece, a 3d item and a piece based on a 'metal challenge' pack that was handed to us all. The piece in the photos is my half finished, long, narrow piece. I was working on it on the floor and with in a spilt second our old pus decided that I needed help to hold down the corner.(Sorry, to the non cat lovers out there :-)
