Textile Art Exhibition, Woodbridge Library, Suffolk

Fibrefusion, Contemporary Textile Art Group is currently showing their very popular traveling exhibition 'Seed Heads' at Woodbridge Library, New Street, Suffolk, IP12 1DT, England.
The exhibition will be on display until 30th July 2012. The exhibition is open daily 10AM - 4PM

Several days through out July, Fibrefusion group members will be attending the exhibition, demonstrating something craft/sewing related. I will be stewarding all day Friday 27th and Monday 30th July. Do stop by and say hello :-)

Scotland, Bury St. Edmunds and SewDanish

Well, here we are almost two month later.... Life is great and so busy! I have to confess that I haven't done much sewing, crafting, designing nor computering lately. And I do miss it. Other hand there is a time for everything and sometimes it is good to take a step back and change direction for a while.

What recently has been taken my time are lovely visits from relatives and friends from Denmark. I'm always so happy when dear ones come to visit and are willing to spend their precious vacation time to come visiting. Lots of time is spend catching up (in Danish, my native language, bliss! :-) . And while showing and sharing my beautiful surroundings, it so makes me appreciate the beautiful corner of the world where I'm currently living.

As I didn't get around to do any blogging, I never properly advertised our recent OutOfTheFold exhibition at The Castle Inn, Bungay where we all had made a 12 x 12 inch piece framed in identical frames. I know I'm biased, but it really looked stunning! If you missed that exhibition, the same collection will be on display at Denny Brothers Art Gallery , Bury St Edmunds, England the whole month of July 2011. My piece is the one featured in the blog post.

Currently my other textile group FibreFusion is exhibiting at Sew In Stitches , Scotland with our 'Touchy Feely' exhibition. A selection of other pieces are on display as well.

Before I go, I want to share my happy dancing with you.......Last week I celebrated my 150th sale in my shop SewDanish . Thank you to all my wonderful customers. I really appreciate it :-) Thank you! 

'Out Of The Fold' and Australia

In my last blog post I was writing about our quilts from my textile group 'Out Of The Fold' going on display in Melbourne, Australia. Last Friday when the group met we had our quilts returned to us and Annette Morgan filled us in on her experience Down Under. Very exciting!

Tonight a friend of mine emailed me, to let me know that this Australian blog
suedennisartquilts has two blog posts about our exhibition. And I'm so excited as my quilt, amongst others, has been featured. But above all, it is a superb feeling getting a reaction from a lady who has actually seen our exhibition it in its context.

In the group we have chosen our design theme for our next exhibition in 2011. After thinking long and hard I have finally decided on my design source. I haven't had time to sit down and really get on with the design work, but what I've done so far, definitely has a lot of potential and I cannot wait to get on with it.

A little bit of this, a little bit of that

Well 'Fibrefusions' exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham, was extremely well received. It was totally amazing to be part of the whole experience. It was absolutely wonderful to talk to the people who took time to stop by and have a good look. To see the spontaneous reactions on peoples faces when they entered the exhibition area was really lovely.

I have now had a bit of time off, done a lot of yoga, tidied my room which was much needed and caught up on other craft projects, that had been put on hold, while getting ready for the exhibition. Still need to get new listing ready for SewDanish but that will hopefully be this done this week.

Spend the other day playing with wool tops and various types of open weave fabrics, making nuno felt. I would never pretend that I'm a felt maker. In fact I have actually avoided working with wool tops after a severe moth problem some years ago. Moths still give me the creeps, and even thought I know there should be room for all creatures, out of all, that specie is not welcome in my house. But I had a lovely day playing and made some superb textured wool/fabric surfaces. Mind you, I couldn't get them to shrink/texture enough, so in the end I put them in the tumble drier on high heat for a while. That did the trick. Every piece puckered up beautifully :-)

Fibrefusion at The NEC, Birmingham, England

This weekend Fibrefusion , the Textile Art Group that I belong to, will be exhibiting at The National Exhibition Center, Birmingham, GB from Thursday the 25th - 28th March 2010 as part of 'The Sewing For Pleasure and Fashion and Embroidery Show' Fibrefusions extensive and very exciting exhibition can be found in Hall 12, stand ZM06. Please make sure to stop by and say hello :-)

Fibrefusion is an exhibiting group of textile artists who are tutored and mentored by Pauline Verrinder and we meet fortnightly just North of Cambrigde. The Aim of the group is to pursue excellence, based on a strong design foundation in all aspects of textile art and mixed media. We strive to share our expertise, passion and enthusiasm through exhibitions, demonstrations, publishing books and education

I will be heading down to the NEC tomorrow being part of the 'set up' team. That is so exciting and a bit daunting, as I've never done anything on this level before. Definitely a superb challenge that I'm so looking forward to. The piece included in this blog post will be on display as my 'touchy feely' piece. My other work on display is still a secret :-)

Textile / Fiber Art Exhibition at Lavenham Guildhall, Suffolk, GB

I know, I'm rather late writing this blogpost, but hopefully you will by now, have seen my tweets and facebook postings about Sindano's textile exhibition at the 16th century, historic building, The Corpus Christi Guildhall in historic Lavenham, Suffolk, England. The Guildhall is a National Trust property and NT entrance fees applies. Our exhibition has been set up to day and the door will open tomorrow Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th November, both days from 11 am to 4 pm. A mixture of traditional and contemporary fiber art will be on display. There will be sales tables with our handmade pieces. While we are stewarding the exhibition we will be working on various pieces and are more than happy to show and explain what we are doing. I'll be working on my handwoven baskets made from folded paper strips. In fact I just finished the preparations for a large bowl made from strips cut from a Danish newspaper that I'll be working on while stewarding on Sunday.
I just watched the local weather forcast on our local television station 'Look East'. The forcast is a bit gray and damp, so if you want to add a bit of colour to a gray November day, then please stop by and say hello. The permanent exhibitions at The Guildhall will be open as well as their lovely tea room, which will make a perfect stop for nice cup of tea and a bite. If you haven't visited Lavenham before with all its old timber framed crooked housed then you are really in for a treat. A great day out, for your husband as well :-)

'Out Of The Fold' at Cavern 4, Bury St. Edmunds

Have I been busy lately. YES!! Even though my blog has been neglected, I'm happy because I'm almost done preparing work for two different, upcoming exhibitions in one October with 'Out Of The Fold' and one November with 'Sindano'. Actually I'm taking part in a third exhibition with 'Fiberfusion' in November as well, at the Knitting and Stitching Show at Harrogate. That is why I've been pushing my self to get all the other exhibition work done, so that I can concentrate on that piece, which I haven't started yet. Mind you, I only did join 'Fiberfusion' recently, so that's my excuse. I'm not bored that's for sure :-)
We, the 'Out Of The Fold' Textile Group is having our second major exhibition of stitched and dyed textiles. This time it is a week long exhibition at 'Cavern 4', Whiting Street, in Bury St. Edmunds , Suffolk, England. The exhibition is on from the 24th-31st October. All new work from the 13 textile artists will be on display. I've seen group members working first on their design work and then on their pieces this last year and stunning work is being produced! It will be very exciting to see the exhibition finally hung. Please contact me for more information.

Exhibition Quilt

I have been working on a quilt today. It is a quilt for our next exhibition. We are all making a 18 x 42 inches quilt on the theme of "Inside Out" to be hung in the entrance room of the exhibition area, to create a cohesive visual focal point.
I have a master plan for my quilt, but having said that, I'm taking it step by step, not to mess things up, so to speak. So far I have made a long panel with attached images. The images are transferred on to fabric from a mono print that was made as part of my design work. Four images slightly off set on an old recycled damask table cloth, quite densely quilted in long free motion parallel'ish lines. I love using the old table cloth that are beyond rescue because of too many stains. I find them in thrift/charity shops or flea markets/car boot sales. They are so soft. Dye beautiful, and I like the thought of re purposing them, giving them a new lease of life. A long side my main piece I've made three small quilts, trial and error pieces to experiment on. After having finished quilting the panel and the three smaller pieces, I took a deep breath, went and got my emulsion/latex paint from the garage. Diluted and slightly coloured the paint and painted the quilted trial pieces lightly..... It looks great. Tomorrow I'll paint the main piece :-)
