FibreFusion' new Muslin book!

I promised in my latest blog post that I would post a picture of 'my' textile group Fibrefusion's brand new book, Muslin, a Stitched Exploration of Loose Weave Fabrics'. Well here it is :-)
It was so much fun being part of making this book. A new and very exciting process and challenge to see a book take shape.
FibreFusions exhibition at Art Van Go in celebration of our new book will be on display until the 15th of October 2011. On most days Fibrefusion members will be there to meet you and demonstrate various muslin techniques. Looking forward to see you there :-)

This is so exciting! The textile group Fibrefusion that I belong to, has just had its 5th book published! The book ‘Muslin, a Stitched Exploration of Loose Weave Fabrics’ is an inspirational workbook using the lovely fabric Muslin throughout the book. The book can be seen and purchased from Fibrefusions website. On the website you'll as well find our 4 previously published books.
In celebration of our new book, Fibrefusion will be exhibiting from the 10th September to the 15th October at Art Van Go There amongst others, you’ll be able to see the samples and finished work shown in the book.


Belstead weekend: Muslin samples galore

Muslin, calico, scrim is such a fantastic, but also quite often an overlooked medium, which is why we chose it as the subject for our book. This past year we have had total fun working, exploring and stretching the boundaries for what can be done with Muslin and scrim. The result was an amazing amount of colourful, stunning samples many of which can be seen in our book. A big THANK YOU goes to Pauline Verrinder Fibrefusions mentor, who has done a huge, wonderful job in writing the text, keeping us honest and pulling it all together.

In August the 16 group members met for a working weekend at Belstead house (link). We partly worked on the tying the last bits up for the book and exhibition at Art Van Go and partly on a new body of design work for upcoming exhibitions. We had a superb time and the weather was beautiful.

Scotland, Bury St. Edmunds and SewDanish

Well, here we are almost two month later.... Life is great and so busy! I have to confess that I haven't done much sewing, crafting, designing nor computering lately. And I do miss it. Other hand there is a time for everything and sometimes it is good to take a step back and change direction for a while.

What recently has been taken my time are lovely visits from relatives and friends from Denmark. I'm always so happy when dear ones come to visit and are willing to spend their precious vacation time to come visiting. Lots of time is spend catching up (in Danish, my native language, bliss! :-) . And while showing and sharing my beautiful surroundings, it so makes me appreciate the beautiful corner of the world where I'm currently living.

As I didn't get around to do any blogging, I never properly advertised our recent OutOfTheFold exhibition at The Castle Inn, Bungay where we all had made a 12 x 12 inch piece framed in identical frames. I know I'm biased, but it really looked stunning! If you missed that exhibition, the same collection will be on display at Denny Brothers Art Gallery , Bury St Edmunds, England the whole month of July 2011. My piece is the one featured in the blog post.

Currently my other textile group FibreFusion is exhibiting at Sew In Stitches , Scotland with our 'Touchy Feely' exhibition. A selection of other pieces are on display as well.

Before I go, I want to share my happy dancing with you.......Last week I celebrated my 150th sale in my shop SewDanish . Thank you to all my wonderful customers. I really appreciate it :-) Thank you! 

Textiles In Focus 2011 by Pauline Verrinder

                         

I'm so exited! Textiles In Focus is just around the corner! This great event organized by Textile Artist, Author and Tutor Pauline Verrinder is a total must for any textile/fiber art enthusiast and crafter and is not to be missed. I promise you will not be disappointed! The event will take place 25-27th February 2011 at Cottenham Village College just north of Cambridge, England.

Please take a look at the programme for all details about the exciting workshops, exhibitions,  demonstrations, lecture and all the lovely vendors. This years lecture will be by Dawn Thorne on 'Transparency and Dimension'. The two textile groups exhibiting this year will be 02 Textiles and Fibrefusion
The chosen charity for the very popular tombola is Alzheimer's Research Trust 

As a member of Fibrefusion I will be attending the event on most days. Do stop by and say hi  :-)

On this last day of the year 2010 I want to wish all a very happy and healthy new year.

2011 is going to be a busy and exciting year for me. I'm participating in several textile exhibitions with deadlines fast approaching. In one of my textile groups, Fibrefusion, we are writing our 5th book which accordingly to plan the book is due to be published in September 2011.
My list of projects for my shop SewDanish is ever growing and I'm so excited to get back sewing after my December travels to Copenhagen, Denmark. As the photos kind of show a lovely trip, but bitterly cold! Brr.... :-)

Right now my husband and I are in the middle of planning our trips for the coming year that will hopefully include a fair amount of hiking around England. We so want to walk part of  Hadrians Wall, so that is very high on our list. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

A little bit of this, a little bit of that

Well 'Fibrefusions' exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham, was extremely well received. It was totally amazing to be part of the whole experience. It was absolutely wonderful to talk to the people who took time to stop by and have a good look. To see the spontaneous reactions on peoples faces when they entered the exhibition area was really lovely.

I have now had a bit of time off, done a lot of yoga, tidied my room which was much needed and caught up on other craft projects, that had been put on hold, while getting ready for the exhibition. Still need to get new listing ready for SewDanish but that will hopefully be this done this week.

Spend the other day playing with wool tops and various types of open weave fabrics, making nuno felt. I would never pretend that I'm a felt maker. In fact I have actually avoided working with wool tops after a severe moth problem some years ago. Moths still give me the creeps, and even thought I know there should be room for all creatures, out of all, that specie is not welcome in my house. But I had a lovely day playing and made some superb textured wool/fabric surfaces. Mind you, I couldn't get them to shrink/texture enough, so in the end I put them in the tumble drier on high heat for a while. That did the trick. Every piece puckered up beautifully :-)

Fibrefusion at The NEC, Birmingham, England

This weekend Fibrefusion , the Textile Art Group that I belong to, will be exhibiting at The National Exhibition Center, Birmingham, GB from Thursday the 25th - 28th March 2010 as part of 'The Sewing For Pleasure and Fashion and Embroidery Show' Fibrefusions extensive and very exciting exhibition can be found in Hall 12, stand ZM06. Please make sure to stop by and say hello :-)

Fibrefusion is an exhibiting group of textile artists who are tutored and mentored by Pauline Verrinder and we meet fortnightly just North of Cambrigde. The Aim of the group is to pursue excellence, based on a strong design foundation in all aspects of textile art and mixed media. We strive to share our expertise, passion and enthusiasm through exhibitions, demonstrations, publishing books and education

I will be heading down to the NEC tomorrow being part of the 'set up' team. That is so exciting and a bit daunting, as I've never done anything on this level before. Definitely a superb challenge that I'm so looking forward to. The piece included in this blog post will be on display as my 'touchy feely' piece. My other work on display is still a secret :-)

'Textiles In Focus', Cambridge. A great day out!

From Friday the 19th to Sunday the 21st of February 'Textiles in Focus' will for the 9th year running be at Cottenham Village College, just north of Cambridge, England. Please go to the website for the total program, opening hours and more.
Pauline Verrinder , who is an international exhibiting textile artist and tutor, has once again been working hard behind the scene organizing this event. I know that she has been very busy, as she is my mentor in two of the textile groups that I belong to: Fibrefusion and Advanced Textile Workshop.

What can you expect to find at 'Textiles In Focus'? Two main textile exhibitions by MESCH and Threadsx4 as well as several displays from other textile groups, a great selection of 2 hour workshops running all three days (do check for availability as they are very popular), lots of great vendors and this years guest speaker is Isobel Hall, who will be speaking on "mixed media and stitch". Isobel Hall's work is beautiful and she has published wonderful textile/embroidery books.
My textile group 'Advanced Textile Workshop' will be having a display of hangings based on 'memories'. We had a look all the hangings at last weeks meeting. Beautiful work! Fibrefusion will not be having a display, as we are very busy getting ready for our big exhibition at the National Exhibition Center (NEC) Birmingham end March. But you will be able to find us anyway, as we will be selling our very popular hands-on creative/free style machine embroidery books. The books can be bought on Fibrefusions web site as well.

 

'Fibrefusion' exhibiting at 'Knit and Stitch', Harrogate 2009

Are you going to The Knitting and Stitching Show at Harrogate, England, next weekend? The show is on from Thursday 19th - 22nd November. Every year for several years, I have made my annual trip down to the Knitting and Stitching show at Alexander Palace, London. Every year I have left totally in awe of the amount of creativity, my head full of inspiration, my bags full of wonderful stuff and my wallet empty.

This year is slightly different and I so excited. As I've mentioned in earlier blog posts, I joined the very advanced textile/fiber art group 'Fibrefusion' this summer. 'Fibrefusion' will be exhibiting at 'The Knit and Stitch' in Harrogate next weekend! Our stand will be downstairs in Hall F as you come down the stairs, and across from the schwissing area (sorry, I'm not quite sure how to spell that). I don't have the exact stand number at the present time, but I think we'll be hard to miss. Please be sure to stop by, say hello and FEEL FREE TO TOUCH OUR EXHIBITION PIECES. They are MEANT to be touched. Usually it is the biggest no no to even think about touching items on display, however much ones fingers are itching. Fiber art is so tactile, and 'Fibrefusion' therefore decided to break the norm, and make an exhibition where you have that added tactile dimension of touching and feeling. It will be very exciting to see, how it is being received. I promise you that the work on display is superb.
